Letter R

This summer we’re Digging into R.E.A.D.I.N.G at Blast off with Books.
Today, we learned how to sign the letter R:

Read two books:

1-2-3 Va-Va-Vroom! by Sarah Lynn
Race you to Bed by Bob Shea

And:

Flannelboard + Song: Oh, no! Poor Joe the Rooster! (I adapted this one from Storytime Magic)
I handed out feathers to the kids and said “Oh, no! Poor Joe, he has no color!”
Then sang (to the tune of “Muffin Man”):
“Do you have a red feather, a red feather, a red feather?
If you have a red feather, bring it up here now!”

And continued through the feather colors so each child could bring up their color.

They put the feathers EVERYWHERE – it was a blast!

We also sang an adaptation of “The Wheels on the Bus”:
“The wheels on the race car go round and round.
Round and round, round and round.
The wheels on the race car go round and round,
All around the track!

The engine in the race car goes vroom-vroom-vroom!
Vroom-vroom-vroom, vroom-vroom-vroom!
The engine in the race car goes vroom-vroom-vroom,
All around the track!

The race car driver steers and steers.
Steers and steers, steers and steers.
The race car driver steers and steers,
Almost to the front!

The car in second makes its move.
Makes its move, makes its move.
The car in second makes its move!
We have a winner!”

At the end, I brought out our *NEW* iPads!
We used the app “Peek-a-boo Barn,” and the group had time to tap through the app listening to the different sounds.
